Inspired

I had a wonderful Christmas and New Years! Full of smiles, love and… chocolate.

But, today was definitely one of the more  inspiring days I’ve had in a long time.

Meet Mrs Tindall.

We drove to see our 93-year old family friend after 4 years of only exchanging letters and phone calls. She lives in a quaint condo, surrounded by photos family, her accomplishments, and reminders of the past.

She’s as sharp as a pin. She has a hearing aid, but comprehends what is said perfectly. Over lunch, she shared her thoughts on politics, on hockey, on current events.

What struck me most about her was her optimism. Unlike many seniors I’ve met, she doesn’t complain of aches and pains, nor does she long for the past, or speak of lost friends. Rather, she enlightened us with tales of once marshalling a parade (2 years ago), how she actively advocates for the arts, and even how she joined forces with a team of seniors to promote a local singer’s new record. She discussed learning about Skype, her future goals to work with a computer, and her fascination with technology.  After we left, she even called to make sure we arrived home safely.

How inspiring.

She was so, unbelievably, content with her life. She looks forward to each day ahead of her and lives each moment to the fullest. All the while, maintaining her values and ambitions.  I hope to be like that some day.

I’ve updated my “fitness” link! Please check it out. :)

How have you been inspired this Christmas season?
